"Couldn't sleep
either?" Mariana turned around at the sound of Ellie's bedroom door
opening and closing. Ellie, Jordan’s niece, was staying with them while she
worked as an intern over the summer.
There was no reply. It
wasn’t Ellie that had come out. Mariana
watched Eli's dark shadow move across the room and out through the back
door to the dogs. Mariana opened the door and followed the ghostly
apparition. Standing on the porch, she watched as their newest addition, Deelia,
crouched in the back of the kennel whimpering while the other dogs wagged
happily as Eli doled out the attention in the form of pats and strokes.
It took a few minutes for Deelia to realize the energy was not dangerous. Wagging her tail, she moved to the front of the kennel and basked in his presence. Knowing her dogs were being well taken care of, Mariana stepped back into her home with a smile on her face and went back to bed.
The next morning proved to be amusing for Mariana. Ellie was frantic as she described how her door had opened and closed on its own a few times during the night. She went on to explain how she had also witnessed lights turning on and off.

Mariana explained that
it was probably just Eli or another visiting ethereal prankster. Either way,
both appeared to be harmless.
Mariana had done her part and warned Ellie in the beginning that there may be a few weird happenings and not to worry or freak out. Being a nonbeliever, Ellie just blew it off.

She’s a believer now. Welcome to our side, Ellie!
